17 Nov 2020, a day in progress

Status: Sheltering in place, we have plenty of food and supplies.

We’ve installed a new Air Conditioner and there is a terrible amount of work to be accomplished. The highest priority is insulate the ducts against moisture and clean up the living room. I have to run a new duct to the living room and bedroom to give the air handler more flow.

Looks like the Church audio equipment is staying in the living room, we have another outdoor service in three weeks.

I weighed in at 217 today, that’s two Lbs over my maximum weight. I will reduce my calories in hopes to drop to 215 this week. 190 would be a great goal.

My EcoFlow R600 Pro won’t be shipped until the end of the month, I should get it around Christmas.

Narrative: I’m skipping the time bullets today. We got up and are drinking our Dominican Coffee this morning, it’s delicious! Slept pretty good, the outside temperatures are very moderate at 65 degrees and 44 at night. The dehumidifier runs a lot but the air conditioner is idle for the most part.

Placed a cover on the Air Conditioner Freon lines to prevent water intrusion into our home. Ran Generator #3 for 2.5 hours, oil is in good shape.

Feelings: As Christians we are compelled to look after the Widows and the poor. Just how we do that in this climate when there is so much energy fighting the democracy I don’t know.

Researched Philippines Typhoons last month, they took a huge toll on the island. I am not going to get much headway with CF this month.

Didn’t do much of anything after church services today. Researched a replacement attic ventilator since the motor is probably on it’s last legs. I was searching for a DC motor replacement that might be more efficient than the 90W AC motor. The solar gable fans are only 10″ in a 14″ housing, air will creep on the outside edges. The solar ventilator units come with solar panels and are 300 dollars, too much money for a DC motor. I have lots of time to work out a replacement.

Worked on the back of the house today, I replaced a piece of siding that had been broken for a couple years. It was surprising how soft the wood was, the nail went in with a tack hammer. But they held tight and that’s all I needed. I checked the inside of the wall and it felt dry. (Cut a hole in the insulation) I also checked the carpet and drywall on the inside of the wall, no signs of moisture. I did see signs of moisture on the carpet where the gas meter enters the house, it was pretty warn until I sealed it a while back.

Sometimes we happen upon a really cool feature of our home electronics. Our new 10K$ A/C unit came with an online application called Nexia and I just found out that it integrates with Home Assistant (NodeMCU). I can now graph the run percentages of the compressor and whether it is heating or cooling! I also get temp and humidity readings from the thermostat graphed as well.

What I am really struggling with is mem of color using the momentum of BLM to push/break rules normally obeyed by Americans as part of our society. We’ve gotten to the edge of wearing masks, most people are no longer raising their fist against them. I went in to THD today and two men not wearing masks walked into the store, waited in line and were serviced at the customer service counter WITHOUT the required masks. I had to think of that for a while, I surely would have been approached by the store to put on my mask? With the current political environment I assume that no one wanted BLM protests on the front of THD for asking a Black man to wear a mask. So now we are migrating into a culture of there is no negotiation, the only solution is to submit to Black’s person’s will and keep your mouth shut.

Something I noticed yesterday was the compressor jumps to 100% in 20 minute intervals, I have NO idea why. It would certainly lower the efficiency to spin the compressor at max for two minutes and then drop it back down to requested speeds. It doesn’t always do it

Narrative: I’m skipping the time bullets today. We got up and are drinking our Dominican Coffee this morning, it’s delicious! Slept pretty good, the outside temperatures are very moderate at 65 degrees. The dehumidifier runs a lot but the air conditioner is idle for the most part.

I’m up, waiting on the Coffee to brew, reading about tearing down statues by vandalism. They have the advantage, peacefully protest to the base of the statue and then put a chain around it to pull it down. Then march away peacefully as a “Mostly Peaceful Protest” like they’ve been doing for BLM International all year.

Can’t wait until I have a couple days worth of data to compare all the other sensors. I have a remote thermostat that i keep in the bedroom with a tiny (200W) temp controlled personal heater to put the finishing touches on the temperature. The Air conditioner keeps it below 76 degrees and the heaters keep it at/above 74 degrees. (Within .3 degrees) Heaters can cycle quickly with very little latent heat.

I found out today that the dehumidifier cycles every six minutes because the fan runs a minute or so after the compressor shuts off. This dries out the coils and raises the humidity more than 2% in the living room, which in turn turns the dehumidifier right back on. The fix is to use Home Assistant to turn off the Dehumidifier and not let it’s fan push the moisture right back into the air.

Checked the news while I was eating my eggs this morning, Georgia is in the news with inconsistencies in their counts. The race was VERY close in this state, it will be interesting how this plays out.

CF must be getting pretty tired of all the letters we’re pushing through. It’s been three years trying to get a consistent process for something they hold key to their type of sponsorship. I think we’ve written 32 letters in a month, that aught to keep them busy.

Slept a lot today, it’s been an emotional week with all the drama sucking up our emotions. I need to get back on the job with moving stuff into storage.

We watched Biden & Harris give their speeches last night. Harris sure made a point of being a women of color elected as Vice President. (Some of us are expecting upward mobility with this aging President.) The country seems delighted to have voted Mr. Trump out of a second term, which doesn’t happen very often.

It is going to be very interesting what BLM does with the new leadership. I think the American people are changing their prospective on the violence and becoming intolerant. BLM had white privileged American’s on the run most of this year, I think that is changing. I think BIPOC Americans are also voicing their concerns over Systemic Racism diluting the singularity of the BLM message. (That they care only about the Black men are being abused by the police.)

Well, time to prepare for Zoom church service this morning. We’ve eaten breakfast and taken a nice hot shower already. People in South America take cool showers as they don’t usually have hot water. It is too funny having both faucets in the sink and only one of them works…

Checked on my R600 Pro (Solar Generator), looks like it won’t ship for two more weeks. Boo! A Hurricane is headed for my mom in Florida next week.

Dinner was chicken legs and whole kernel corn.

I worked on my traveling inverter labeling the wires and flipping the connectors so that they can’t be inadvertently connected incorrectly. (Keyed) The idea is that someone in our family looses power and we can bring this box to provide power for a short duration. If a longer duration is required then I bring a generator and gasoline to charge the batteries the following day.
