Status: Sheltering in place, we have plenty of food and supplies.

We’ve installed a new Air Conditioner and there is a terrible amount of work to be accomplished. The highest priority is insulate the ducts against moisture and clean up the living room. I have to run a new duct to the living room and bedroom to give the air handler more flow.

Looks like the Church audio equipment is staying in the living room, we have another outdoor service in three weeks.

I weighed in at 217 today, that’s two Lbs over my maximum weight. I will reduce my calories in hopes to drop to 215 this week. 190 would be a great goal.

My EcoFlow R600 Pro won’t be shipped until the end of the month, I should get it around Christmas.

Narrative: I’m skipping the time bullets today. I started working on the attic first thing this morning without drinking my coffee, it was COLD. We had to run electric space heaters in place of the central air conditioning because I removed the duct pipes a couple days ago. I had checked the weather before crippling the air conditioner by removing the ducts. There wasn’t much I could do, I had already planned on “Assisting” the air conditioner with very small space heaters controlled by Home Automation. They kept the house from getting much below 69 degrees.

I’ve come a long way on this project, but as of this morning there were only two vents still connected to the air handler on the West side of the house. I’d cut a hole and mounted a new pipe to the South. I also managed to add a wye from 10″ to two 8″ pipes pretty early in the morning. I dropped my 1/4″ driver down alongside the air handler so I had to buy a new one before going much further.

By the end of the afternoon i had taken another nap and connected the first 8″ duct to the air handler. The 2nd 8″ duct was from the master bedroom and it needed a 6″ wye to connect to the 6″ vent in the ceiling. After dinner I connected and bundled the ducts together and pulled them across the attic. After taking another break about 7PM I connected the 8″ side to the air handler. The 6″ side was much easier since the space above the master bedroom has plenty of support above the insulation. By 9PM I was ready to turn on the air handler and see how everything works. There was good air to the master bedroom but it was 4 degrees cooler than the 8″ living room vent. It did match up to the two 6″ vents in the other two bedrooms that are still hard pipe. (And have considerably shorter runs.)

The 55 Gl trash can is getting quite full from all of the insulation i’ve taken from the attic. The recycling is also full from all the cardboard from the duct shipments.

Headed to bed.

Narrative: I’m skipping the time bullets today. We got up and are drinking our Dominican Coffee this morning, it’s delicious!

Headed into the attic first thing this morning before it gets warm up there. I made a platform across the joists to sit/lay on. The roof is “Just” at where the nails keep poking into my head. An hour later i have a hole cut that is about 1/2 smaller than the desired hole. My tin snips were binding up preventing me from going further. I brought them down and put some oil on them. They need massaging before I go back up and the sun is warming the attic very quickly.

Back in the attic, i snipped the inner circle so that I could fold the flaps into the duct attachment ring. Using a pair of plyers I bent the tabs out of the plenum one by one. The duct ring fit perfectly over the tabs and I attached it with sheet metal screws. I added three extra screws at the top of the ring for support. It’s a 10″ duct with a 8″ WYE for the two vents.

Church services today, Wife made an scrambled eggs with lots of extras. Church went really well, I needed a nap afterwards. Ran generator #4 it did a good job but I forgot to check the oil afterwards. Oops.

We played scrabble after dinner, that’s always fun.

Watched some videos of the Typhoons that hit the Philippines and Manila was under water, like 4 feet of water!

Pulled the pipe from the living room first thing this morning. I found out that the vents to the living room are larger than the bedroom was. (I thought all the vents were 7″) It could very well be that all the bedrooms have 6″ vents. I know for sure that the two living room vents are 7″, I’ll run a 8″ pipe to a reducer at the register for those. That should make up for the difference in hard pipe to the flexible pipe I am using. The M bedroom i plan on installing a 2nd 6″ vent.

Went into the attic to pull the pipe off the bedroom vent. It took an hour or so to pull the insulation back and pull the pipe off the register. There was quite a bit of material in the pipe. Since the other ducts are much cleaner than this one, I’m inclined to assume that the fan I used to have pushed unfiltered air back into the duct.

It got too warm to stay in the attic so I closed up, ate some lunch and wend down for a long nap. I did a bit of research with all the data from the new air conditioner. It turns out that the compressor can run for very short cycles. That can be problematic for metal ductwork that is in unconditioned spaces. The air must overcome the mass that is at a much different temperature than the air flowing through it.

The flexible ductwork had a much different response.

Slept pretty good, the outside temperatures are very moderate at 65 degrees and 44 at night. The dehumidifier coasted most of yesterday, the humidity is between 40 and 50. I changed the humidity setting on the dehumidifier to 55 and provided power until the fan stopped running that dries out the coils. If the NodeMCU turns on the power it should sit idle.

Tore the NodeMCU for the dehumidifier apart and added dual heating in case I get behind on the duct work I can supply a little heat to make it comfortable. There are two extension cords on the NodeMCU for the heaters, one for low heat 200W and one for a little higher 500W. It also has the capacity to run them both in parallel. Both heaters are disabled if the dehumidifier is running.

Didn’t do much of anything after church services today. Researched a replacement attic ventilator since the motor is probably on it’s last legs. I was searching for a DC motor replacement that might be more efficient than the 90W AC motor. The solar gable fans are only 10″ in a 14″ housing, air will creep on the outside edges. The solar ventilator units come with solar panels and are 300 dollars, too much money for a DC motor. I have lots of time to work out a replacement.
