25 November 2018, A day from Mark’s past

Status: House is a shambles and we’re not done with Kathy’s project for school.

Narrative: Had to help setup church services this morning at 08:00, it was difficult getting out of bed. I am somewhat stiff and uncoordinated, but I got there on time and setup went well. I made several serious mistakes during the service that were easily heard by the congregation. (I was not on my game today.) Home at 12:30 and had a ham sandwich while the wife does a audio recording of her presentation. (The final product will be her standing in front of the screen giving the presentation.) I am headed to bed for a nap, then we’ll do a video run-thru of her project using cameras.  We recorded her project using our phones, it turned out that our phones were a better camera than any camera we had in the house.  She had to comment on posts by today so that took president over continued work on the presentation.  I am in moderate pain and my joints are sensitive again, I reached behind the couch and came out yelping in pain.  I’m  almost certain all of this some relationship with my sugar intake.  Need to buy one of those meters and take my sucrose levels for a week.  Well I’ve taken some pain medicine and when that kicks in I am headed to bed.

Tomorrow:  Last day to turn in school project.

Farm Sale

Status:Status: Farm equipment identified, but need to post a serious paired down list to the realtor.

Narrative: We (Family) need to decide what we’re going to do with the red van?  It does run, but it badly needs an oil change to prevent damaging the engine.  It can’t be driven to a shop and it’s getting harder to dispose of used motor oil if I changed it myself.  The inside of the van had gotten moldy by leaving loaves of bread in it and the van was occupied by mice/squirrels for some time.  (They chewed through the molding and feces are everywhere.)  To me, it’s scrap metal and is too scary to be used without risk to someone’s health.  Unfortunately I have not been able to find any pictures from the inside of the van to show the depth of what I am describing.

24 November 2018, A day from Mark’s past

Status: House is a shambles and we’re not done with Kathy’s project for school.

Narrative: We spent a good deal of effort yesterday building the audio portion of her project. We’ll likely record a run through today.

The wife made coffee today, I am sipping on a cup while updating this blog.

I am not sleeping more than a couple hours at a time.  I wake up with air flowing out of my mask rapidly because the seal against my face is disturbed.  It will take a bit of time to break down the three pieces of the puzzle, mask tightness against my face, range of pressure given to the machine to use and my eyes draining into the back of my throat cutting off my airway by making it sticky.  The way to work this taking a long period of time forgoing any productive activities.  By far the most common is my eyes get dry during the day and when they heal at night the white blood cells make the pallet of my throat sticky enough that the septum blocks my airway to my nose.  The result is that I end up exhaling forcibly out my mouth knocking the mask off my face.  (Since I’ve lost the ability to exhale through my nose.)  I get into this circle by staying up too many hours and letting my eyes get damaged by being excessively dry.  It takes about three days for them to heal completely and break the cycle.  (But who likes laying in bed for the better part of three days.)

Tomorrow: Church services in the morning, haven’t been to one in three weeks.

23 November 2018, A day from Mark’s past

Status: We’re home and trying to recover from our extended trip to Florida.  Our living room floor is full of tubs and baskets from the trip.

Schedule: 09:30 travel to park for our family walk after Thanksgiving, then to the Train museum and finally lunch.

Narrative: We made coffee and then took a nap to prepare for the outing today.  The walk around the park was very chilly to say the least.  The train museum was pretty cool, I thought the steam engines were the coolest thing on the lot.  (I hadn’t thought of a steam powered air compressor until I saw one on an engine.)  I hadn’t thought of powering the air conditioning for the sleeper cars from the wheels either.   Someone also spent a good deal of effort making a mechanism to keep the sleeper cars as upright as possible even on unlevel track.  (Lunch was pretty good and then we were ready for our afternoon nap.  We spent some time playing scrabble and planning the school project that is due on Monday.

Injuries: I’ve managed to hurt my left foot just inside my arch where the bones pinch me on the inside. I also have cracked my right heal and it managed to get infected on the way back from Florida. I used a hacksaw blade and sawed open the crack in the callas so I can apply ointments.

Noteworthy: My E-Mail was blowing up with messages from the Florida cameras today because the Realtor was walking mom’s farm taking pictures.

Tomorrow: It’s going to rain so inside cleanup day and meet up with J&J.

Today was Thanksgiving

Status: We’ve still not unpacked our car from the three week trip to Florida.  But we’re very grateful to be home.
Today’s Plans: Celebrate Thanksgiving with the family just after lunch time.

Narrative: Spent an hour or so pulling stuff out of the car very early this morning.  The back seat is mostly empty, but the trunk is still pretty full.  Had three eggs and some juice, all the others expired a month ago.  I put the coffee pot together so the Wife just has to turn it on.

We’ve picked up a nest of tiny ants, not sure but I think they’ve built a nest in the attic.  Google Foo suggests liquid Borax, I’ve seen Borax powder for roaches.

Pulled some more boxes out of the car, I think I’m down to the two desktop computers from her business office.  I thought about bagging them, spraying the bag and bagging them again?  They’re Windows XP, but mom wants the pictures off of them. I’ve got the same issue with an old Toshiba laptop.

Thanksgiving dinner went well, I ate too much and was suckered into having peach cobbler on top of that.  We had a really good time, but we miss our son that couldn’t make it for the first time in many years.  We took the traditional picture with the family that will end up on our walls.  We went home around 20:00, I was exhausted and just needed to get home.  (Didn’t even stop for gas.)  We washed our CPAP stuff tonight, it’s been a couple weeks and they were beginning to smell.  Confined air works pretty good under a comforter when it is cold like this.

Firewall News: The Fortigate 60D firewall at grandpa’s will dial into my firewall in Atlanta when I ask it to.   I need to find a way of having it dial without asking and maintain the link without interaction.

Solar News: I had to leave the second 50W panel in Fl. because I forgot to load it into the car. Boo!  My two 100W panels in Atlanta will keep my refrigerator running during the day as long as it is bright sun and can push about 140W into the batteries. Okay,  your right, it’s maybe 5 cents worth of electricity and hardly worth the effort.

Pi News: https://www.raspberrypi.org/
I downloaded NOOBS 3.0 (New Out of Box Software) and loaded it onto two 16GB Micro SD cards, NOOBS 2.0 apparently cannot be used on the Pi V3B.  I’ll let it load from the SD card then update it over the Internet versus downloading the entire thing across the www.  The red LED must mean something different on these new Pi’s? Something like “The power is on” because I have plenty of power available and the red LED is constantly illuminated.  Mom has two Pi’s on her new desk and there are two Pi’s on the old farm as well.

Tomorrow: Plans are to walk the park and go to the Train museum, then dinner somewhere that I’ve forgotten already.

21 November 2018, A day from Mark’s past

Current Project: Recover from our trip and work on the wife’s college project due Monday.
Status: Our car is packed full of bug infested stuff we brought back with us.  The worst of it is in a plastic bag in the driveway.  (I didn’t want to leave it in the car and I really didn’t want to bring it into the house.)
Theme: Help the Wife finish her Honors GSU College course with an “A”

Today’s Plans: Let the Wife study, pick up the pieces of our Atlanta home and unpack the car, albeit slowly.

Narrative: We didn’t unpack much from the car, suitcases and CPAP’s last night. (I searched the lining of my suitcase and didn’t find any traces of bugs.) I woke up around 4AM and logged into the 13 cameras that are on the farm to set them in alarm mode. Eight of them record 24/7 and a select eight of the thirteen will send me an E-Mail if something moves in front of them even for a couple hours if the power goes off. I have a really good view of the living room.
I did remove the stupid logo from the picture after making this post.

Mom asked about how long will the power be on.  It took me a minute to figure out what she was asking.  I cannot turn off the power to the house or the bumpkin without draining the expansion tanks of the two wells and it would be a royal pain to restart the shallow well if I drained the pump.   Because of that no arrangements were made to change the power to the security cameras that are being powered from both meters. The house heater is set to 60 degrees but the trailer (Which still has water pressure) has no power to keep it from freezing.  (Although power can be run from a nearby camper power plug in the lawn.  Which was the deciding factor in pulling the meter last week.)  The wires from the breaker panel to the trailer have a bad underground wire and consumed $40 worth of electric before I cut it off.  (It will only get worse if I leave it on.)  The toilet in the trailer leaks a little so that should keep enough water flowing for the outside pipes.  (The kitchen pipes in the trailer are at risk unless someone opens them if it gets really cold.)

The outside spicket to the water trough in the front pasture is still ON, I’d crack that so it drips when it gets really cold as well.  The big water trough in the lower pasture is cut off at the trough.  It will leak sufficient water not to freeze, I can’t say the water lines above the dogs will survive though.  🙁  The Bumpkin water is off and cannot be restored without repairing the broken pipe where the two troublesome females were kept. (Between the trees across from the pump room.)

The water heater is on, but there is no heat in the laundry room of the house to keep those pipes from freezing.  (There is a brand new heater in that room that can be plugged in if necessary.)  I don’t know if setting the HOT water and COLD water dripping will protect those pipes, it should.

The toilet bowl in the office needs some water to keep the sewer smell from backing up into the office.  (It was horrible yesterday.)

Please leave the small light in the house living room window on, it draws very little power.  The 100W incandescent light in the bumpkin will help keep it dry.  There are only two breakers on, one for that light and one for the security cameras.  The other two breakers are for the deep well and the barn.  (Which both must have power.)

Have to make a run to the post office box, it’s the holidays and the box gets full pretty quickly.  I just remembered I left my 50W solar panel in the living room and checking the cameras it’s right where I left it. (Next to the door.) D+M offered to get it, I sent a picture of it and copied R. then she sent me a message without copying D+M offering to pick it up. (I’ll to be very clear who I am talking to and in what tense when I copy someone in on a ongoing conversation.)

D will be taking the garbage off the farm today, there is about 60lbs of fish that’s in the Bumpkin that will get ripe very soon.

D+M have had a busy day, they got my battery chargers that I left on the ground in the middle of the farm and my solar panel I left in the house.  The good thing about them being in the buildings today is that they gave us a good test to my security cameras.

D also mounted the two smoke alarms today in grandpa’s house, so that’s done!

I’ve lost one of the cameras on the Bumpkin, there’s no coverage on the North pasture on that side of the fence in front of the Bumpkin anymore.  I tried several things and one of them wiped the camera to factory defaults.  It was connected to the network over the wireless, the key word is “Was” since it’s not anymore.  Apparently we damaged one of the network wires cleaning out that room yesterday and it didn’t affect the camera until after midnight last night. There’s still twelve other cameras to keep track of the land.

We had leftover Chili for dinner and played a game of Scrabble to unwind before bed.  Most of the stuff we brought home is still in the car since I worked on the equipment pictures all day.

It looks like a cat has taken refuge on my security system tub in the barn.  (It’s probably pretty warm.)

Pi News: I bought two new Pi’s while I was in Fl but I didn’t have the Micro SD cards for them.  The one Micro SD card I had would not run the Pi.  I tried one more time using my Netbook to SD Format the card and load NOOBS, but the Pi flashed the red LED at me saying nope, sorry…

20 November 2018, A day from Mark’s past

Current Project: Back Get Home
Status: There are a couple of things here that have to be taken to grandpa’s and I left my laptop there that needs to go home.
Theme: Get’re done and get home Tuesday!

Things I cannot do that have to be done:
Go through Tin Shed for trinkets mom wants.
Move PU truck to grandpas.

Today’s Plans:
Pack up the car in the rain.
Pull washing machine off of dolly at Grandpa’s
Take pictures of everything we’re keeping.

Major things that are staying on the farm:
Leave the White 36V golf cart that is up the its axles in sand
Tools needs to be moved from the shed.
Several fence poles needs to be moved.
Red VAN
Large flatbed trailer
Silver PU Truck
Tractor, post hole digger, Bush Hog and Blade.

Purchase
Grandpa’s repair/install fire/smoke/CO alarm

Tomorrow: I’ll worry about that when I get there.

Narrative: We opened the freezer that was in the Bumpkin yesterday and it was a solid block of ice. I put a large fan to thaw out the freezer around lunch yesterday. It was thawed when we got home after dark so I double bagged the contents and put them in paper bags to protect the plastic. The problem is that I left them outside and it rained on the paper bags this morning. Things are never easy. I put the bags on top of a wire cage and a fan underneath to dry them out. Dropped off the last of the paperwork that needs to get to grandpa’s. Bought fire alarms and gave them to R, the mounts are still on the ceilings. We also took the washer off the dolly so that it doesn’t roll into R’s car. D is on his way here, but it is raining pretty hard. We’re packing up, will have to wait to load the car. We searched the house again for paperwork, removable media and computers and either sent it with D+M to grandpa’s or loaded it into the car. We had a full car when we came down here, it’s going to be packed for our trip back. (We couldn’t take our battery powered chainsaw home because of it’s large size.) We did manage to get in a significant Nap before departing for Atlanta around 5PM, 8 hours later than I had planned. We got home around 11:40, which is quite respectable. The GPS said 4 and Half hours and I thought that was crazy talk, but we got home in 6 and half hours having eaten a large dinner at Chilis in Tifton. (Which was AWSOME by the way.)

There is more detail I will add later, it’s 8AM Wednesday and I need to get that page started.

19 November 2018, A day from Mark’s past

Current Project: Move mom to grandpa’s farm.
Status: There is still so much to do and the holidays are just around the corner.
Theme: Get’re done and get home Tuesday!

Today’s Plans: Move all the files/folders/PII off the farm and take the things mom wants to Grandpa’s farm.
Leave the White 36V golf cart that is up the its axles in sand
Tools needs to be moved from the shed.
Several fence poles needs to be moved.
Red VAN
Large flatbed trailer
Silver PU Truck
Tractor, post hole digger, Bush Hog and Blade.

TODO List
Pull washing machine off of dolly at Grandpa’s
Take pictures of everything we’re keeping.

Purchase
Buy two dollies for Mom.
Grandpa’s repair/install fire/smoke/CO alarm

Tomorrow: Drive home, arrive before 3PM. (Depart by 9 PM if we can.)

Narrative: HUGE day today, I am TIRED! Digging files out from under 1/2″ of squirrel/mice poop all day is a filthy tasking.
We started the day having breakfast at “Grammies” this morning. I started work on the tractor fluids first thing. I didn’t move the tractor today, we didn’t need it without the dumpsters. After filling the rear axil I started hauling boxes of old files from the house until D gets here. There are just a few large items left like the glass table. (Sheesh, it’s HEAVY)

I am leaving a significant amount of infrastructure to support the cameras and outside lights on the farm. The 12 cameras are being modified to be a farm wide security alarm that sends a picture if anything moves in front of them. I do not know (when we actually start showing the property) if we should pull out all the cameras or leave them.
