Bed bugs are a disaster…

We went to a cabin for the third time at Misty Mountain and had a horrible experience with bed bugs on this trip. When we arrived, there was a very strong smell in the cabin. It was so strong that I opened the windows when we arrived. (That was our first clue that we were in trouble.) My wife started getting bites on her arm 3 days into the trip. Since we’ve never dealt with bed bugs, we had no idea what was biting her. (We sent them an E-Mail after we found out that we brought them into our home and they claimed they didn’t see any. Which is probably true, but that statement doesn’t mean they are not in the cabin. No mention of the “Rust Stain” feces on the bedding and other traces they leave behind were noticed.

These bites lasted for two weeks, it’s not just like a mosquito bite.

I understand their hesitation to inform us of a previous run-in with bed bugs. They probably didn’t want to idle their most popular cabin and they don’t want to leave an opportunity for any liability either. Bed bugs are very difficult to deal with. This is not something you should hide from your tenants and make us figure it out on their own. Also, before I get into dealing with the bed bugs we brought home, this is no time for a business to lie about the infestation to protect their asses. We would have left the cabins a day or two earlier if we knew what was biting us.

We also found out in our research that Bed Bugs have grown resistant to spray insecticides. According to Arrow Exterminators it’s illegal to broadcast spray insecticides since they only work if the spray gets directly on them.

Diatomaceous earth is something that can help with their hiding places. According to one article I read, bed bugs are already resistant to insecticides since DDT was outlawed.
