8 Jan 2021, 12 Trump Days Left

Status: Sheltering in place, we have plenty of food and supplies.

This is about all I have left of my parents.

I saw an article where Kamala Harris talked about Systemic Racism where the two races have a different starting point but can have equal treatment. I am a white person living in Atlanta where most of the people I intersect with are either Black or Hispanic. I don’t believe for a second that someone in Atlanta applying for a job will be turned down because they are BIPOC. We don’t have to be like California and bring back truly racist programs like Desegregation and Affirmative Action.

The proponents of the bill, the most radical progressives in California (which is really saying something), say it’s about removing the ban on affirmative action, first passed in 1996. The University of California Board of Regents, headed by Janet Napolitano, supports this bill. Many have absurdly cited the CCP coronavirus pandemic and the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department to say the (ban) of affirmative action should end. Opponents call it nothing more than a racial spoils system designed to grant preferential treatment to some communities of color over others. California Legislature Votes to Allow Discrimination by Race (pjmedia.com)

We’ve installed a new Air Conditioner and there is a terrible amount of work to be accomplished. The highest priority is insulate the ducts against moisture and clean up the living room. I have to run a new duct to the dining room and do a bit of insulating on the ductwork over the living room.

Project Engineering: Layout new ductwork. With a variable speed compressor the temperature drop in the ducts has a much greater affect on the performance. The reason is that the forced air temp can be just a few degrees above the room temperatures. (Meaning that a few degree change becomes a large percentage of the heat/cool capacity into the room.) I’ve doubled the insulation on the 6″ ducts since they had the greatest surface area per volume of air. I’ve also doubled the long trunk line to the Master Bedroom since it’s length and the two 6″ ducts were affecting the air significantly. I encased the 8″ duct to the kitchen inside a 12″ duct. (Pretty easy actually.) and ran it to the vent over the microwave. I need one more 12″ duct to encase the 2nd 8″ duct for my cave.

Almost Done, whew it was a lot of work!

Heat pump and ducts are working pretty well, I have the guest bathroom to fix.

My EcoFlow R600 Pro won’t be shipped until 15 January 2021, I should get it in February 2021. Boo!

Found out yesterday they didn’t run the Ground through the device. DUMB!
The output is to power pins only, ground pin is just a hole? There’s no way this passed UL(r) certification for the power connections. I’ve asked for the UL number, no one knows.

The COVID numbers have gotten really high from Thanksgiving, in fact they are the highest I’ve ever seen them.

Narrative: I’m skipping the time bullets today. The heater is working pretty well with the majority of the ducts connected back. I used the NodeMCU network to record some data on the performance of the ducts I’ve already installed. (Not Many)

Slept ok, sipp’n coffee and deciding how much of the news we’re actually going to watch. It is a pretty miserable day outside, cold and rainy. Had frosted mini-wheats for a late breakfast and then we both took a good long nap. I got up in the attic and removed the last metal duct today. I also connected the 8″ flexible duct to the kitchen vent. I need to pull one more 8″ into a 12″ to replace the R6 10″ to my cave. Spent the evening preparing for the outside service and talking with Lashauna at CF.

Feelings: As Christians we are compelled to look after the Widows and the poor. Just how we do that in this climate when there is so much energy fighting the democracy I don’t know.

Researched Philippines Typhoons last month, they took a huge toll on the island. I watched several videos, 3-5 feet of water leaving 3-5″ of mud on everything inside their homes and on the streets. This will take a long time to clean up, I checked the Internet and they were pretty bad off. Homes and crops were destroyed and thousands are displaced without enough food or water. According to CNNCF they anticipate being back to normal by Jan 2021, WOW!

I sent a message to CF asking about our letters we’re missing. They responded with how busy they are with the holiday season and with the COVID-19 delaying their efforts. I sent them a letter on Friday letting them know that there is an error that affects Josephine’s birthday gift.

Slept ok, sipp’n coffee and deciding how much of the news we’re actually going to watch. It is a pretty day outside. I got up into the attic again today. There was a lawn trash bag full of insulation and the garbage will be picked up tomorrow. I also wanted to get the 25′ of 12″ duct out of my cave into the attic. I mounted a 8″ to 7″ adapter on the end of the duct while I was in the attic. I also cleared the heavy insulation away from the vent that it will be attached to. My plan is to lay cardboard to protect the wires across the rafters then a piece of plywood on top of that for me to lay on. It gets to be quite a pile of stuff to remove a duct and then connect one during the same session. Spent the rest of the evening reading the news and getting organized.

Slept ok, sipp’n coffee and deciding how much of the news we’re actually going to watch. It is a pretty day outside, i’m setting up the solar heater and putting on my shoes to go outside. I pulled a 12″ duct and a 8″ duct out of the box and laid them end to end on the driveway. Attaching a rope to the 8″ i pulled it inside the 12″ to give me R16 insulation.

I’ve already proven I can improve the performance of my variable speed air conditioner by pulling a 6″ duct inside a 10″ saving about 6 degrees of temperature drop. The current drop is in the neighborhood of 1.5 degrees with R14. (I used R6 10″ for the outer duct.)

I guess I should have waited to walk a mile yesterday.

Made a run to Goodwill to rid us of some unneeded stuff. Went to THD but they didn’t have the 8″ duct that I needed within reach. I knocked a box from the top shelf but it was only R6, I want R8. Slept ok, sipp’n coffee and writing my communion for church today. I found out yesterday that they wanted me to do the sermon. Church services went well, fellowship afterwards is always fun. I ran all four generators in the last couple days so they are good for a month. I also got up into the attic and clipped the braces from the west wind turbine fan to increase the air flow. The powered vent can push enough air to stop the east wind turbine, so that one is working great. I broke out the 6″ powered damper, it has a small synchronous motor that opens the vent when powered. I have lots of options to incrementally open the vent. I need to build a set of rules that will govern the vent, then I can start writing code and building a NodeMCU to control it. The bedroom vents are out performing the 10″ duct to my cave on a low compressor setting. (Probably since the 10″ is R6 insulation.) If the air sent into the 25′ duct is low and the velocity is also low then the R6 insulation allows a 6 degree fall in temperature.

“When I say I struggled to find employment, what I mean is that the moment I apply for a job, some HR manager or artificial intelligence program Googles me. Within a second, they know I am black, and within a minute I’m automatically disqualified from the pool and a rejection letter goes out.” Thanks For Your Advice, But I Need To Be White To Follow It | by Rebecca Stevens A.

I don’t currently have a plan for the 8″ duct into the kitchen since I need a 12″ duct to encase the 8″ duct.

Slept ok, sipp’n coffee and writing in this blog. Checked the COVID numbers for Gwinnett and Walton counties. They are extremely high, three weeks ago they were in the 200’s.

I had broken sleep, but O2 monitor didn’t show anything to worry about. I am up, it’s Jan 01 07:37 and I am waiting on my Coffee. Nothing from the Philippines this morning, 10 days until we complain on the 11th of Jan. Updated my time matrix with the current status. Josephine’s birthday gift didn’t get sent last year and there is an error in the database because it is listed twice. Two eggs and sausage for breakfast with Orange Juice. Time to call mom. Lunch was a tuna sandwich.

We decided to take a pretty long nap today. I got up and powered up the Peltier cooler and record some readings. The vendor that was selling them was selling them at half price for the six chip version. (I ordered three more of them.) First feelings are that the four chip version doesn’t have enough air flowing to justify the addtional Peltiers.

The one I have can condense water out of the air at 50% humidity using less than 2amps per chip! I hadn’t planned on using them to dehumidify the garage, but i guess I could…

Didn’t sleep as good as i have last couple days, but it wasn’t too bad. We tossed around helping a couple friends with a roll of toilet paper. We put a roll in a plastic bag then headed to the bank since our cash reserves were severely depleted from the Air Conditioner install. We dropped off the TP and headed home for a well deserved nap. I got some more fittings from Amazon today so I assembled the battery cooler components for a test.

The Peltier cooler can either heat the water or cool the water. The idea at present is to put the radiator outside the house and use the cold air from the Peltier cooler to cool the batteries in the summer months.

Slow morning, I was up very early and the weather was causing me some discomfort so I took a shower in the midnight. The pain subsided and I was able to get some rest until the sun came up. I worked on the piles in the living room this morning, they need an occasional purging. I captured the performance of the air conditioner last night, some adjustments are still in the making.

I turned on the fan and let the Heat Pump cycle a couple times. The graphic below shows the temperature at the end of the two long ducts. I was glad/surprised that the 6″ ducts seem to have the same performance as the single 10″ duct.

I had thoughts of going to THD but never left since it is possible for us to have COVID. I also had thoughts of getting into the attic, didn’t do that either. I did get a couple naps in.

Church tonight so this is probably the last of my writing today.
